Headache Hell

For the past 24 hours, I've been struggling to function while feeling like my skull is being ruptured, and in so much pain I'm nauseous. At the store with the kids earlier, Belly started to cry over some ridiculously overpriced toy, and in between the harsh lights and his loud crying, I actially reached up and covered my head with one arm and my face with my other hand. I must have looked insane. I handed Belly the stupid Bakugan toy and with a grimace stuck on my face, told the kids we had to check out and get home. Sometimes just standing up or sitting down will make my head pound so much I can't see.
SO I go to my trusty friend, WebMd.com, and find that the symptoms and timing indicate menstrual migraines.
Which is the same conclusion I came to a few months ago when one hit me with so much force that I didn't think I was going to be able to drive home. Yet, once it was over, I forgot all about it, and was surprised all over again when WebMd spat out the verdict.
If I believed in Karma, I'm sure I'd have to have killed a busload of saints and burned down a day care center to be in this kind of pain. Is there a special place reserved in hell, called the migraine room? Forget waterboarding, if you really want to torture someone, re-create a migraine and then make them go to work and take care of children while they hurt so much they can't even cry, for fear it will only make the pain worse.
Oh, sorry, and I being a whiny baby again??

Oh I can't imagine. I think I had a migraine once when I was 14 and I remember it being HORRIBLE! I hope it goes away soon for you.

Don't you know us momma's have absolutely NO time for any kind of pain, illness, tiredness, etc?...you will just have to suck it up and move on (I say with a sarcastic grin)!

Honestly, I hope you feel better soon and maybe since you have a diagnosis from your Dr. WebMd then hopefully you can stop it before it gets to you next month!

I have migraines as well. They are hell. You can get medications to stop the pain once it starts or as a preventative.

I have taken every form of preventative on the market. I am currently taking Topamax, it is a medication for seizures and also helps in the prevention of migraines. Please go to the DR, there is help.

EXCEDRIN MIGRAINE EXTRA STRENGTH. Works wonders with my worst migraines. I used to have them regularly before... now, not so often but I always make sure I have my Excedrin handy. It has never failed me.

no you are not being a whiney baby. I've had hormonal related migraines for years and they suck big time. Who can go in a dark room and lay down w/ kids to take care of?

Must be nice.

That sounds aweful. So sorry to hear that. Is there any perscription medication that you can take? I have never had to deal wtih migrains thank goodness, but I hear it is terrible, and from your post, it sure sounds bad. I will keep you in my prayers that you can get something that will help you, since it may be occuring every month if its related to your period.

I've never had a migraine and I'm so glad. But I feel your pain in another way. Every period, I get severe back pain and all I can do is lay down with a heating thing and cry. Womanly duties suck.

I'm sorry sweetie!

I used to get migraines 3-4 times a week. Now I mostly get menstrual migraines, so when I first feel one coming on (they creep up my back before stabbing me through my skull), I take 3 ibuprofens with a little coffee or tea. But if it's a really wicked one and it bypasses the ibuprofen, I take Relpax (prescription). I also found that lavender or eucalyptus scents help a little...at least while I'm waiting for the meds to kick-in.

I tried Excedrin before and all it did was make me sick (the caffeine was WAY too much--like mainlining it instead of slowly ingesting it over the course of an hour) and didn't kill the pain. BTW Excedrin Migraine has the exact same ingredients as regular Excedrin...just in case you take it.
